Check out three new Backwater songs from our latest self-titled album which was recorded and produced by Menno Fink and George Shilling (Blur, Primal Scream, James Brown, Lisa Stansfield, New radicals, Porcupine Tree etc) at Sunday Luxuries Studio, Lunteren, the Netherlands. For promotion purpose we have printed a limited number of copies. The sleeve contains a 36-page booklet with photos by Jens van der Velde. |

A little update from the Backwater crew: Recordings of our new songs are almost finished! 2 tracks are already spot on, and we are currently working on the final vocal recordings for the last track. Just a bit more patience please! :) Meanwhile I bought a new drum throne and a cajon (birthday money well spent!) and I am very busy working on Backwater Promotional Material. |

| Jeroen leaves novAct after 6 years of active duty |

Almost 6 years after uniting, novAct's bass player and buddie[!] Jeroen van Maanen has left the band. So, there you have it. The search for a new bass player has started. We take comfort in the fact that Jeroen will carry on playing bass for our remaining shows this year (at least until a good replacement has been found). Backwater travelled to England for a day of Soul Searching and a recording session with producer George Shilling! This might not ring a bell at first glance, but his credit list shows (among many others) the following names: Primal Scream, Lisa Stansfield, James Brown, Blur, Texas and Teenage Fanclub. Soon, you might hear more about what we did there exactly and might do in the future!

| On May 21st - just 24 hours after the recording - Soulmates' song 'Nooit meer verloren' was broadcasted on Holland FM and last Friday (June 15th) it was played during ‘Dubbeluur’ on Omroep Gelderland. Yesterday (June 20th) Omroep Gelderland played both 'Feel the one' and 'Touch Me' by the band The Rain Poets. A cool side-note... The Rain Poets will be performing live on the radio too. More information on this soon. |

| We won the local open stage band contest in Substitute in Ede. We got this big trofee and the band will perform on the notorious Heideweek festival in Ede! Even more exciting news... Today I re-recorded all the drum parts for the upcoming novAct pre-production (a selection of our new material). The original recording (October 28th) was good, but not heavy enough and after we decided to change several guitar and synth accents there was no other option then to enter the studio once more. Not only did I switch from a 5 piece setup to a 6 piece setup (check out the gear page) I also discovered a cool new way of (real fat) tuning. Sad news is that my china cymbal died during the recording process… luckely I talked to Patrick van de Kerkhof, owner of Patsticks, to check out some new Amedia cymbals any day soon.

| Happy to deliver several new items... |
Just received the news that my Chop Shop Drum Company 14" x 13" custom floortom has arrived... but it is still in customs... they need to calculate the taxes. That will take another 3-5 days?!@#$ Dennis Leeflang will be using my custom kit during the Muzikantendag at Milky Way (Melkweg) in Amsterdam on May 27th.
A few weeks ago - while visiting the P60 in Amstelveen during the Headway Festival - I got another 'thank you' from Mike Portnoy. A picture can be found in the download area.
June 25th The Rain Poets (XL) will support Roosbeef (SSW winner Grote Prijs '05) @ Park Open in Arnhem.

| Wouter and NovAct are forced to part ways |
Goodbye Wouter!
During our concert in Antwerp Belgium we have announced with great grief that Wouter and NovAct are forced to part ways.
Wouter is suffering from a severely growing deafness and has to quit playing live shows immediately if he doesn’t want to end up with hearing aids.
As everybody can imagine, the departure of the founding father of NovAct, is a severe shock for all of us. Still Wouter will stay involved with the band as a composer.
Wouter will be replaced by the very talented guitar player Roy Segers and we are all confident that NovAct will continue to create and play great music for you! More information about Roy will be posted on www.novAct.nl as soon as possible.

| BumbleFoot European Tour (part II) |
Yesterday I had an amazing gig @ the boerderij in Zoetermeer. I even had a guest appearance during one of BumbleFoot's songs. On his 'normal' album Dennis Leeflang recorded a multiple layer marching drum. So that's were I came in! ;) Major thanks to everyone who made this happen!

| It has been a while... |
As you already know I received my new Chop Shop drum kit, but what else happened since the last update... me and my girlfriend Maaike went to Paris - I arranged a gig with BumbleFoot featuring Dennis Leeflang @ the Boerderij, Zoetermeer - visited theme park Efteling - I joined The Rain Poets during their CD release party where I had the privilege meeting Yonga Sun (!!) and went for a kayaking trip. Pictures will be posted as soon as possible!
So what's coming up...
novAct will support After Forever in top ranked venues scattered throughout The Netherlands and Belgium [check out the GIGS page] - The Rain Poets XL is born, especially for larger venues and festivals.

| Mike Portnoy / Headway Festival |
My weekend as Mike Portnoy 's personal assistant (in a nut shell):
How can I define the past two days... well it was hard work but I loved every single minute of it! The first day we spend in a small rehearsal room finetuning the drumkit and Mike preparing all the drumparts for the Headway Festival. The second day I had to rebuild the drumkit and took care of the soundcheck and all other stuff that is called 'roadie-ing'. Mike really appriciated all I did for him and gave me this little gift. Ray, Jim, Frank and Joey from Fates Warning are exceptionally nice guys too - it was fun hanging out with them - but knowing most of you visitors are drummers... here are some pictures of the drumkit and Mike playing:
